Breaking News Update 4:00pm: Tubby Smith leaving Kentucky for Minnesota. Who’s next at Kentucky? My guess is they’ll call Billy Donovan first. I think he’ll stay at Florida, so who’s their next choice? Back to the original post…

This is not what I’d originally planned, but here’s a few things as [...]

I’ve not yet posted any thoughts on the first weekend, largely because that weekend was pretty busy and the first couple of days this week have been as well.
My son’s birthday was yesterday, and we did the party thing on Saturday. It’s kind of hard to believe it’s been three years. I remember [...]

Maryland-Davidson tips off in a few minutes, followed by Texas Tech-Boston College, then Louisville-Stanford. There are a lot of good first round matchups, but how great is it that three of them are being played in the first group of Thursday games? What a way to start!
Three tournament wishes

It’s hard to predict the Final Four. I’ve said before this season that I don’t think the two preseason favorites - Florida and North Carolina - will win it all.
Based on history, of course, it’s hard to tell. Two years ago, UNC and Illinois were expected to play for the title. [...]

Some have called this the easiest road for a #1 seed, but I still think the South is easier. Florida should get past the Arizona-Purdue winner to reach the 16. Some of the TV heads have pointed to Davidson as a possible spoiler with an upset of Maryland, but I don’t think so. [...]

I think this is the most difficult road for a #1 seed. It couldn’t have happened for a better team, either ;) North Carolina will have to beat the Marquette/Michigan State winner, then potentially face Texas and Georgetown to reach the Final Four. That’s quite a task, especially for a young team. [...]

This region has a lot of names in it - Kansas, Kentucky, Villanova, Duke, Indiana, UCLA. There’s more tradition in this region than any other. Kansas and UCLA are the top two seeds and expected to meet in the regional final.
I don’t see Kentucky or Villanova knocking off Kansas, although Kansas has certainly [...]

I picked this as the easiest road for a #1 seed. I think Ohio State will not have any problems getting to the regional final. I believe they’ll reach the sweet 16 without any trouble at all.
I’m picking them to meet Tennessee there. Tennessee has a great player in Lofton, [...]

To quote 80’s band Night Ranger, “I need a touch of madness.”
Well, it’s March, and the madness is here. I’m finding it hard to focus on much else this week as the tournament is less than 48 hours away.
(Yes, I’m aware that the play-in game is tonight, but nobody cares except the [...]

See it here. It’s beautiful, isn’t it? Yes, it is.
First, my thoughts on the weekend…
Well, it is March, and the madness began early in the conference tournaments. Teams expected to be in their finals - like UCLA and Texas A&M - lost early, and the SEC and ACC were pretty mixed up [...]
