Last Saturday I took the family to Old Navy. The kids both needed some new jeans, and there was a sale. We came home with two pair of jeans for both kids.
And, two cats.
While they were not selling cats at Old Navy, there is a PetCo in the same shopping center. As we were leaving Old Navy and heading out to do some grocery shopping, my daughter wanted to go by PetCo and look at the pets. I initially objected, more interested in finishing shopping and getting back home, but my wife talked me into it. Turns out that on this particular day, they had cats there which they were trying to unload.
My daughter fell in love with one immediately. As did my wife. There was a fair amount of begging and discussing that went on for several minutes. Most of it was directed at me, as I seemed to have the final say. I’m not certain I actually did, but I suppose everyone was humoring me.
It was inevitable from the time we walked in and saw the cats that we would be taking one or more home with us. There was really no stopping it. And, sure enough, a short time later, we abandoned the rest of our shopping trip in order to take home a couple of kittens.
So, meet the two newest members of the family, Katie and her brother, Oreo.
We’ve had a good week so far. They’ve been really good cats and the kids love them. And I have a blast watching the cats play together. After talking about getting new pets (i.e. cats) for a few months now, Saturday was our kids’ lucky day.
So much for jeans on sale. They turned out to be a lot more expensive than I ever would have thought. But the joy they (cats, not jeans) are bringing the kids is already worth it.

I get the Oreo thing, but I’m still a little disappointed that you didn’t name him “J.J.” :-)
