In honor of finishing my second year at my current job tomorrow (I started 7/5/05), I’ll be taking off the remainder of the week after I leave work tomorrow. Well, it’s not really the reason, it just happened to fall that way. I’m just taking off a couple of extra days after the holiday for an extended time away from work (more than the usual single day off.) I’ve been busier over the last couple of months than I have been thus far in my two years here, and it’s slowed down a bit right now, so I decided to get some extra rest before things pick back up shortly.
No major plans. Our initial plan was to head up to Fayetteville for a couple of those days to visit my wife’s family, but her mom has not been feeling well, and so we’re not going to burden here with company this week. We’ll go another time. However, we do hope to do some fun things as a family, primarily hit a movie or two. Local theaters are showing some free movies for kids this summer, and we may hit one of those on Wednesday or Thursday. My wife and kids saw Barnyard last week, and there are other offerings this week (although I can’t recall what they are.) Another option is the new Pixar movie Ratatouille, which we may check out as well.
I hope to catch up on some reading as I’ve already fallen behind. I just picked up Turn Away Thy Son : Little Rock, the Crisis That Shocked the Nation, by Elizabeth Jacoway, this weekend at the library. Since I’ll only have it for two weeks, I’m trying to concentrate on finishing it in that time. It is a recently published book about the events surrounding the integration of Little Rock’s Central High School in 1957. I’ve never read anything on the Little Rock Nine, and I don’t know if this is the best place to start, but I’m giving it a shot. I recently read a review elsewhere and thought it sounded pretty interesting, especially considering this year is the 50th anniversary of the events. So, I’ll see how it goes.
I’ll probably also watch as much Wimbledon as possible, and am glad to be off during the final week. I should get to see some or all of the quarterfinals (especially if rain keeps causing delays), on through the end on Sunday. Wimbledon and the U.S. Open are the best two grand slams to watch, so I’m looking forward to that.
I’ve been meaning to post about our current church search, as we are currently looking for a new church home (and, in fact, have probably found it), but haven’t done so yet. Perhaps this week, we’ll see.
Not very exciting, but that’s probably what I’ll be doing this week. I’m just looking forward to not being at work and hanging out with the family. That’s all I need right now. So, I may not post again until next week, but whenever I do, I’ll try to actually have something to say.

Hope you have a great break, man. I’m jealous!
