Still taking a break for the time being, but things are starting to pile up. So, here’s a preview of potential items I may be posting about upon my return in a couple of weeks…

April recap - various items from the month of April

  • Final Four and college basketball recap (yes, it will be very late, but I must do it for closure purposes)
  • Final comments on the college basketball coaching carousel as well
  • Why my 7-year-old daughter is developing a British accent and wanting to play poker
  • Comments on the Don Imus controversy
  • Comments on the Duke LaCrosse case

Books I’m reading and will be reading soon

  • A Long Way Gone : Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah
  • Cinderella : The Rise of Mid-Major College Basketball by Michael Litos
  • Religious Literacy : What Every American Needs To Know - And Doesn’t by Steven Prothero
  • The Language of God : A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief by Francis Collins
  • Letters from a Skeptic : A Son Wrestles with His Father’s Questions about Christianity by Gregory Boyd

New Music I’m listening to

  • The Ringing Bell by Derek Webb
  • Vena Sera by Chevelle
  • All The Stars and Boulevards by Augustana
  • Michael McDermott by Michael McDermott (not a recent release, but new to me)

TV I’m watching

  • Lost
  • Heroes (starts back in 1 week)
  • Jericho
  • Firefly (DVD) and the movie, Serenity

In the meantime, here’s something I ran across the other day. I don’t have any commentary. But being an Alice fan, it kind of makes me sad.

Firefly fans will enjoy this: link

(Sorry, I’m at work and YouTube is blocked, so I couldn’t find and post the link directly to YouTube…and I’m going on faith that it hasn’t been removed from YouTube).

That one’s no longer there, but I found it here. Pretty good.

A coworker loaned me the DVD’s for Firefly & Serenity. I’m about halfway through right now, and enjoying it a lot.

Lost: I think it lost its why a little after it came back from the 3 month layoff. But it is building for a huge payoff at the end of this season. Last week’s episode was absolutely awesome! “Enter 77,” “Man From Tallahassee,” “Left Behind” and “One Of Us” have built one of the best story arcs so far. There is supposed to be a major answer to one of the season one mysteries by the end of this season.

Heroes: Can’t wait for it to start back up. Its sort of the “short attention span” version of Lost. Characters are not as deep nor as developed. And the story seems to be taking a much shorter route. I like it very much but it does not have the “I can’t wait until next week” factor that a really good episode of Lost has.

Alice and the Muppet’s: I think that was the first time I ever saw Alice. I remember asking my dad who that guy was and why he had a girl’s name.

I believe it is next week’s episode of Lost that I heard will have a “no flashback” episode, and that is the one that answers a season 1 mystery.

By the way, Mike, I just a few days ago downloaded Jerry Gaskill’s solo disc, along with the first Jelly Jam disc that Ty did, from eMusic. Enjoying them as well. I’ll probably get the second Jelly Jam next month.

This week is a Desmond episode with flashbacks. Next week is Jin and Sun. Then its a Locke episode. It was originally rumored to be the first “no flashback” episode but it turns out that was incorrect. It will be an on island flashback episode like 48 Days was last season. Its going to show what happened to Locke after he blew up the sub, why he got hooked up with the others and what he has been doing with them.

Then, the next week is a Ben episode. That should be awesome.

I still don’t have Jerry’s album. I really need to get it. Jelly Jam 2 is on par with 1. In some ways, 1 is better but 2 is very good.

Glad to see you stop in for a moment. Was wondering when you would recap the b-ball season. But really is there anything left on the Imus incident to be said?

And what do you think of McDermott’s self-titled?

I don’t know if I’ll post on Imus or Duke Lax or not. (I did say may post.) I’ve had a lot of thoughts, read some other stuff that I thought about linking to, and, having listened to Imus for about 4 years or so back in the mid-late-90’s, had some things I’ve considered mentioning. However, by the time May rolls around, it probably won’t be worth mentioning anymore. Besides, with what happened at VT yesterday, both Imus and Duke Lax coverage is now non-existent and will likely remain there.

Have only listened to McDermott’s a few times so far, but like it a lot.

The Francis Collins book has been very interesting so far. I picked it up after seeing a video of his debate with Richard Dawkins (whose book, The God Delusion, I also checked out at the same time).

I read a review of the Collins book, I think maybe in Christianity Today, and it sounded pretty interesting, so I got it from my local library. I hope to start it next week sometime.

I saw Augustana in concert here in Knoxville about a month ago…quite a good live show. Picked up Chevelle today, not sure what I think of it so far. “Antisaint” is a great opening track, though. Congratulations on discovering Firefly/Serenity…truly a show that deserved better marketing. looking forward to your return to blogging.

The more I listen to the new Chevelle, the more I like it. It may be my favorite Chevelle disc to date. It’s all very good, and the first 5 tracks are outstanding. I’m particularly fond of “Brainiac”.

I’m loving Firefly, but only still about halfway through now. Hope to finish the series by this weekend, and get to the movie next week.
