I was prepared to post this picture today, assuming that Peyton Manning would “lose the big one” again. I really hate to waste that picture. However, THE big one is in two weeks, so maybe I can still use it then (although I’m not holding my breath.)

Nevertheless, it will be a historic Super Bowl now that both Smith and Dungy will be the two coaches. They’ve been talking about the possibility of one or both of them making it for the past week, and I can only assume that now that they’ve done it, the national media will report on the significance so often over the next two weeks that we’ll eventually get tired of it. Of course, with ESPN, everything is overdone, so it won’t be surprising or unexpected that they talk about Smith and Dungy endlessly. Even so, it won’t take away from it because it’s a first and deserves to be recognized. And, despite wanting the Colts to lose (because of my dislike of Manning), I do like Dungy and am happy for him in particular.

I always enjoy checking out Insomniac’s Lounge. He always has some good (and humorous) commentary, and today’s post is no exception. I would agree with his comments about the fact that the Smith/Dungy story being news is unfortunate at this point in time. While, as I said, it is a first and it should be recognized, it’s a shame that it didn’t happen a long time ago.

If only all of the SEC teams were ranked. Arkansas has now played five conference games, and three were against ranked opponents. Those were their best three games, going 2-1 and losing only at Florida, where they played well against one of the two or three best teams in the country. They’re 0-2 against unranked opponents, losing to Ole Miss and Georgia (by a total of 5 points.)

The most recent win was a 20-point beatdown of LSU on Saturday. They were on fire, and very easily could have won by 30+ if they’d made a few better decisions here and there. Steven Hill had a career high 16 points on 8 of 10 shooting - which included 7 dunks. That’s right, LSU allowed Steven Hill to score 16 and dunk on them 7 times. LSU should be ashamed of themselves.

Because of the contract our local ABC station has which requires them to show SEC games on Saturday afternoon, I didn’t get to see the Duke-NC State game on ABC Saturday. However, according to what I’ve read, they put together one of their best games of the year. Five players were in double figures, and they beat NC State by over 20 points at Raleigh. NC State isn’t what they’ve been in recent years, but, again, a road win for this team is great, and having apparently played well is a good sign. But, the schedule the rest of the way will be tough every night. Clemson and B.C. come to Cameron this week, and they’ll have to continue to play well to win those. If they would win them both, that would be huge.

God’s Politics blog contains a good article by Brian McLaren titled Religion of Mass Distraction.

Finally, Sheriff Andy hates freedom. This post by Mark Elrod cracked me up.

Why do you dislike Manning? I don’t get that at all. Even if he wasn’t on my team, I don’t see how I could NOT like him.

He played for Tennessee. That’s enough for me.

My dad, however, was a huge Archie (and more recently, Eli) fan. Obviously, he’s an Ole Miss grad. I think he likes Peyton, too, just not as much since he didn’t go through Oxford.
