First, I’d like to thank West Virginia for winning this afternoon. That means I got at least one right. Perhaps Michigan and Oklahoma can come away with wins and my predictions won’t look quite as bad.
New Record
Well, Bob Knight finally set the record. Texas Tech beat New Mexico this afternoon and gave Knight his 880th win, passing Dean Smith for the all-time record. Knight continues to deflect praise and point to his players over the years as those most responsible for his wins, though he did appear to get a little misty-eyed during some of the post game ceremonies. Andy Katz is already pointing to the next coach to hold the record, and says he will likely hold it for much longer when he gets it.
New Coach?
Reports are that Alabama is making Nick Saban an offer today. I have to wonder how Alabama fans will react. Four years ago, then-Alabama coach Dennis Francione was reported to be up for the Texas A&M job. He said he wasn’t going anywhere prior to their final game. Then, at season’s end, he promptly left for A&M (without even telling his players face to face.) Alabama fans called him every name under the sun, “liar” being among the nicest. Saban has repeatedly said he was staying at Miami, even stating a couple of weeks ago that “I’m not going to be the Alabama coach“. I can only assume that Alabama fans do not want another coach who is unwilling to keep his word, and so they probably hope that the offer is not made, or, if it is, that Saban does not accept. (Seems another school in Alabama has a coach that did the same thing to Ole Miss…)
New Music
Checking out the following new music this week, some of which was Christmas gifts. I’m enjoying the new Evanescence, which is not quite as good as their debut, but still very good. The new Jeremy Camp is solid as usual, and the new Kutless live disc is very good. Kutless hasn’t put together a great album yet, IMO, but some good ones. This collection of live hits, though, is fun to listen to. Switchfoot is my favorite, with their new release Oh! Gravity being my main spin the last few days. Switchfoot continues to put out excellent discs, and the new one is no exception.
New Mini-series
I’ve been watching Sci-Fi’s The Lost Room the last couple of days. I’ve seen the first 4 hours, with the final 2 hours remaining. It’s kept me interested so far. I came across it via the trailers for it show during the Heroes marathon at the end of November. I’m looking forward to finishing it up tonight or within the next few days.
Okay, that’s it. I’m off to check the score of USC-Michigan…

I tried watching the Lost Room but it just didn’t grab me.
I’m no Duke fan by any stretch of the imagination but I’m for anybody passing Knight.

I thought The Lost Room was a little slow to start, but I’ve enjoyed it more as it’s moved on. I’ll make a final judgement at the end. It still could disappoint, I suppose.
Clearly, I’m a Knight fan (after all, Knight begat Krzyzewski…) so I was glad to see it. I still don’t understand why everyone isn’t a Duke fan, though…

“Seems another school in Alabama has a coach that did the same thing to Ole Miss.”
Yeah, and that worked out pretty well for them. All’s fair in love, war and coach searches.

perhaps, but that’s one of the things Alabama fans used against Tuberville/Auburn when I was over there. I guess they’ll have to drop that one if Saban says yes.
If Saban does come, how soon before Alabama wins a national championship? I’m saying 4 years. I think he can probably get it done again.
Once again, you guys are more than welcome to Houston if he doesn’t…

Hope Saban leaves.
