I wrote about hard rock/heavy metal a few days ago, and the following night I see none other than Twisted Sister on Leno. Now, that may be disturbing to some, but what’s disturbing to me is what they were singing.
O Come All Ye Faithful.
Did you say…
Yes, I did.
Even more disturbing is that there’s more. They have released a Christmas disc called Twisted Christmas, which they were promoting with their appearance on Leno. I’ll admit that I like the music, because it’s my kind of music, but there just seems to be something very wrong with Dee Snider belting out “O come let us adore Him…” Guys who dress up like chicks and sing hard rock just don’t really seem like the ideal deliverers of the Christmas message.
One thing I noticed was that, during several parts of the performance, it was obvious they were including a little of “We’re Not Gonna Take It” in there, too, and I thought, “You know, that fits pretty nicely.” So I looked it up and the wiki article says this:
The song was written by vocalist Dee Snider. As influences for the song, he cites the glam rock band Slade, the punk band Sex Pistols, and the Christmas carol, “O Come, All Ye Faithful”.
Perhaps I should have known that, but I’d never heard it before.
Update: I had a link to the Leno performance on YouTube, but it’s been removed.
Barney’s Holiday Extravaganza (according to The Daily Show)
Next up is the first dog’s holiday extravaganza, with Barney’s comments added by The Daily Show. The video is here (embedding was disabled, so I can only link to it.) Update: It appears this has been removed as well.
Christmas and Capitalism
On a serious note, here’s one more, and if you read Mike Cope’s blog, you’ve already seen this. I posted it anyway. A friend of mine from college, who was a missionary in Africa for a number of years, put this video together featuring his children. As they say, they were born in Africa, and this was created during their first Christmas season here in the U.S. after returning from Africa.
